Rooted and restless
Class of 1925 Gallery
November 22, 2024 through January 24, 2025
Rooted and Restless explores four distinct visions of our relationships with the natural world through abstraction and representation in painting and sculpture. Despite an acute awareness of climate change, habitat loss, and disrupted ecology, this exhibition speaks to spiritual connections, the restorative power of nature, and the persistence of life, even in threatened environments. Group exhibition with Basia Krol, Meg Lagodzki, Katherine Steichen Rosing, Sheri Rush.

This year’s Biennial features 57 works by 54 artists hailing from 26 cities across the state. The selections represent a wide spectrum of media and perspectives from a cohort of emerging and established artists who represent the depth and diversity of contemporary American art viewed through the prism of Wisconsin. From nostalgia reconsidered and spiritual connections with nature to socio-political statements about the world in an American national election year, the Biennial artworks reflect the zeitgeist in a dynamic survey that comforts, confronts, and surprises.

WATER SHIELDS & DAMSELFLIES
CAROLINE S MARK GALLERY
Center for Visual Arts Wausau
June 8 - August 12, 2023
Water Shields & Damselflies is a body of work that emerged after artist residencies at the St. Croix Research Station in Marine on St. Croix and the Trout Lake Research Station in northern Wisconsin. While meeting with scientists to discuss relationships between forests and watersheds, I became more aware of the delicate relationships between the tiniest unseen organisms and those creatures which may be overlooked or feared yet are integral to complex systems.
